Position Summary
The Orthopedic Clinic RN provides professional nursing care to patients with musculoskeletal conditions in an outpatient setting. This role supports physicians and advanced practice providers by performing assessments, coordinating care, providing patient education, assisting with orthopedic procedures, and ensuring efficient clinic flow.
Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Assessment
Perform comprehensive nursing assessments for orthopedic patients, including pain evaluation, mobility assessment, and neurovascular checks.Assist with the evaluation and management of acute and chronic orthopedic conditions.Monitor patient responses to treatments, medications, and procedures.Clinical Procedures
Assist with and perform orthopedic procedures such as cast application / removal, splinting, wound care, and dressing changes (depending on scope and training).Prepare and position patients for injections, aspirations, imaging, or minor in-clinic procedures.Manage post-operative care instructions and follow-up requirements.Care Coordination
Collaborate with orthopedic surgeons, PAs / NPs, radiology, PT / OT, and other specialty teams.Coordinate referrals, diagnostic testing, and follow-up appointments.Communicate lab / x-ray results and provider recommendations to patients.Patient Education
Provide education regarding treatment plans, medication instructions, surgical preparation, and post-operative care.Teach patients how to use braces, slings, crutches, walkers, and other orthopedic devices.Documentation & Compliance
Document all patient interactions, assessments, and education accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).Ensure compliance with clinic protocols, HIPAA, infection control standards, and regulatory requirements.Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.Clinic Operations
Serve as a clinical resource for medical assistants and support staff.Triage patient calls and portal messages, addressing orthopedic-related concerns.Assist with maintaining supplies, equipment, and sterile instruments.Qualifications Education & Licensure
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of practice.Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).BLS required; ACLS / ORTHO certification preferred.Experience
2 years of nursing experience required; orthopedic, surgical, or ambulatory care experience preferred.About Protouch Staffing
