Aston Carter is partnering with a great company in the Kansas City area that is looking to hire a Corporate Controller for their team. They are seeking a candidate with over 10 years of accounting experience and at least 5 years in a managerial role. While a CPA is preferred, it is not required for the position. The ideal candidate will have experience either working at a public accounting firm or collaborating with external auditors. The role offers a competitive salary range of $170,000 to $190,000, along with a 15% bonus opportunity. Job Description

A growing, multi-entity organization in the professional services sector is seeking a Corporate Controller to provide strategic accounting leadership and drive operational excellence across its finance function. This role will oversee a high-performing accounting team and ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance, and continuous process improvement.

Responsibilities

Lead strategic accounting initiatives and provide financial leadership across the organization.

Mentor and develop accounting team members, fostering a culture of growth, accountability, and operational excellence.

Drive process improvements and scalability in accounting operations, including systems, general ledger, payroll, and cash management.

Ensure accurate and timely management of general ledger, project accounting, financial reporting, and reconciliations across multiple business units.

Collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver financial insights that support decision-making and performance optimization.

Oversee the implementation and enhancement of accounting systems, policies, and internal controls to ensure compliance and efficiency.

Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring the integrity of financial statements and adherence to reporting deadlines.

Prepare and review financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP and internal policies.

Lead annual audit processes and ensure timely, accurate documentation.

Identify risks and process gaps, implementing proactive solutions to strengthen internal controls.

Essential Skills

Deep knowledge of accounting principles, general ledger management, reconciliations, financial reporting, and audit processes.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.

10+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

CPA certification preferred.

5+ years of experience in a leadership role with direct staff supervision.

Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.

Preferred Qualifications

Background in public accounting is a plus.

Demonstrated success in managing external audit processes.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $170,000.00 - $190,000.00 / yr.

Additional Information

Ability to work at a computer for extended periods. Limited travel required. Flexible / hybrid work arrangements may be available.
