Job Summary

The School of Arts and Letters, Department of Media, Culture, & the Arts, is seeking a graduate student within the Master of Arts in Public Relations program to fill the position of Student Media Coordinator. This is a remote position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the operations of the student newspaper staff
  • Have knowledge of and experience using the Associated Press Stylebook
  • Have knowledge of and experience using a web design platform such as Wix or Wordpress
  • Meet weekly with the student editor
  • Hold bi-weekly meetings with student media staff
  • Train staff writers on journalistic writing for a news publication (broadcast journalism experience also favorable)
  • Meet bi-weekly (or as needed) with the graduate program coordinator for updates
  • Collaborate with other student media advisors

Required Qualifications

  • To be eligible for an assistantship, a student must be enrolled as a student for the semester in which the assistantship is held.
  • Students must be enrolled for 6 to 12 credit hours prior to accepting an assistantship
  • As per the Graduate Catalogue, credit hour eligibility for assistantships will depend on the type of assistantship and the nature of the compensation as determined by the Dean of Graduate Studies. If students are enrolled for 9 or fewer credit hours, they must have permission of the Dean of Graduate Studies and their Graduate Program Coordinator.)
  • Students must have a minimum graduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Students must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Have previous experience working with a news publication either in high school or college.
  • Have taken a journalism / writing class either in high school or college

  • This is a paid assistantship (but there is no tuition waiver). Stipend amount is to be determined, but such assistantships usually carry a stipend of $2500.
