Michael and Renee Child Professorship in Business provide additional funding to a current Graduate School of Management academic appointee in the Professorial rank series. The additional funding may support the endowed holder in areas of teaching, research, and service activities directly related to the purpose of the endowment.

Position description

The holder of the Michael and Renee Child Professorship in Business in the Undergraduate Business Major Program at the Graduate School of Management will be a senior faculty member whose creative research and publications are acclaimed nationwide with the rising potential for international acclaim. The Professorship holder should demonstrate an accomplished level of achievement in their work by producing original research, publishing in the most widely regarded journals, and delivering that knowledge into the classroom. The Professorship is used to recruit an outstanding educator with far-reaching appeal within the Graduate School of Management. The title will be awarded to honor excellence and assist with recruitment and retention.

The purpose of the Michael and Renee Child Professorship in Business is to give special recognition to the individual selected and to provide supplemental financial support for teaching, research, or outreach and all other related purposes. For example, the Professorship holder can utilize the Fund to support students, purchase research equipment, travel to professional meetings and conferences, and may support the Professorship holder's salary. The annual payout of the Fund will be used in accordance with campus guidelines and university policy.

The initial term of the Michael and Renee Child Professorship in Business is for three years, with the possibility of reappointment under the regularly established University procedures for endowed professorship appointments (APM 191, UCD-APM 191), with the default preference to rotate it among eligible faculty. It is expected that the holder of the Professorship will advance appropriately through the faculty ranks on the basis of their scholarly activities, teaching, University and public service.

Responsibilities of the holder of the Michael and Renee Child Professorship in Business include :

• Engage in teaching and scholarly activities consistent with the expectations of the faculty and administration of the GSM
• Conduct research and perform service to the GSM and the broader community in which it is situated
• Provide leadership and be fully engaged in the activities of the GSM
• Enhance the academic and intellectual life of the campus as a whole
• Contribute up to 20 hours a year in leadership programming for Undergraduate business major.

Candidates should be prepared to present a seminar that illustrates the candidate's research and ability to communicate to an audience with diverse disciplinary backgrounds.
