Location : Fresno, CA
Pay : $40-$65 / hr (Based on experience) + Per Diem
Schedule : Full-time | Local travel with occasional overnight trips | On-call rotation required
Position Overview
We're seeking an experienced Substation Operator to join our growing team in Fresno, CA . In this hands-on role, you'll support the maintenance and operations of high-voltage transmission systems and substations. You'll work closely with operations teams, coordinate outages, perform field switching, and ensure the integrity of critical electrical infrastructure.
This is a field-based role that requires strong technical knowledge, leadership, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced utility environment.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate and submit outage requests in collaboration with the LSP Transmission Operations team
- Execute electrical clearances, perform field switching operations, and oversee lockout / tagout procedures
- Supervise and support various field personnel, including linemen, contractors, and vegetation management crews
- Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and documentation related to transmission protection systems and communication equipment
- Conduct regular inspections of substation and transmission line equipment
- Maintain accurate records-test results, system drawings, and maintenance logs
- Retrieve fault data and relay event records to support incident investigations
- Use work management software to generate work orders, plan jobs, manage inventory, and track maintenance activities
- Provide on-call support for alarms, relay operations, or system disturbances as needed
- Communicate with vendors, landowners, contractors, and utility partners during daily operations
- Travel locally with occasional overnight stays; participate in a rotating on-call schedule
What We're Looking For
Completion of a technical or vocational training program in substation or relay technology5-10 years of experience in the electrical utility industry or with a testing services contractorStrong knowledge of substation equipment maintenance including transformers, circuit breakers, and switchesValid driver's license with a clean driving recordSolid understanding of protective relaying, communication systems, metering, and SCADAExperience with substation testing software and specialized field test equipmentFamiliarity with utility compliance programs and operational best practices (preferred)Self-motivated, organized, and technically proficient with strong problem-solving skillsExcellent communication skills and the ability to manage tasks independently and effectivelyWhy Join Us?
