About the College / Unit / Department

The Institute for Artificial Intelligence is a research and instructional unit managing the A.B. in Cognitive Science and two graduate Artificial Intelligence degree programs. The M.S. in AI is one of the oldest such programs in the country. The Ph.D. in AI was approved in 2022. The interdisciplinary nature of AI and Cognitive Science is reflected in the mission and composition of the Institute, with Institute Faculty Fellows coming from a wide variety of departments and colleges across campus.

The Philosophy Department is pluralistic in outlook, representing analytic, continental, historical, and non-western approaches to philosophy, with special strengths in aesthetics, epistemology, ethics, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of AI.
