Position Summary

San Diego State University (SDSU) is seeking a dynamic and student-centered professional to serve as the EOP Transfer Outreach Specialist within the Office of Educational Opportunity Programs, Outreach and Success (EOPOS). Under the direction of the Associate Director of EOPOS, the EOP Transfer Outreach Specialist will lead strategic outreach, recruitment, and transition initiatives to support transfer students. Particularly those from historically low-income, educationally disadvantaged, and underrepresented backgrounds.

The EOP Transfer Outreach Specialist independently plans and implements outreach activities at community colleges across California, coordinates the annual Transfer Bridge Program , and fosters collaborative partnerships with community college support programs (e.g., Umoja, Puente, HUBU) to enhance access, transition, and student success.

This position plays a critical role in advancing the mission of the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity, which is dedicated to building an affirming campus culture grounded in equity, inclusion, belonging, and student success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Outreach & Recruitment
  • Conduct outreach at community colleges statewide, including presentations, workshops, and fairs.
  • Promote EOP programs, deadlines, and requirements through in-person, web-based, and social media platforms.
  • Collaborate with university partners (Admissions, Financial Aid, Cultural Centers, etc.) to strengthen recruitment pipelines.
  • Supervise and train student assistants supporting outreach efforts.
  • Transfer Bridge Program
  • Coordinate all aspects of the Transfer Bridge Program, including mentor training, workshops, activities, and student support.
  • Supervise graduate assistants and student mentors.
  • Special Population Outreach & Student Success
  • Build partnerships with EOPS, Umoja, Puente, HUBU, and similar programs.
  • Support targeted transfer student populations through advising, programming, and referrals.
  • Develop and evaluate student success initiatives, workshops, and reports.
  • Other Duties
  • Assist with major EOPOS events (e.g., Explore SDSU, EOPOS Welcome Week, Graduation).
  • Serve as a role model and campus representative in advancing EOPOS goals.

Position Information

  • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent / probationary position.
  • This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8 : 00 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. (Ability to work evenings / weekends)
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

    The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity is responsible for the coordination and development of student services and building the inclusive excellence of SDSU's staff and faculty at San Diego State University. Departments include, but not limited to, Assistant Deans for Student Affairs; Career Services; Center for Educational Partnerships, Outreach and Success; Communications Services; Counseling and Psychological Services; Educational Opportunity Programs and Ethnic Affairs; Financial Aid and Scholarships; Joan and Art Barron Veterans Center; New Student and Parent Programs; Office of the Student Ombudsman; Residential Education; Resource Management; Student Ability Success Center; Student Health Services; Student Life and Leadership; Student Rights and Responsibilities; Testing Services Office; Well-being & Health Promotion; Cultural Centers; and programming related to Inclusive Excellence.

    A primary goal of the Office of Educational Opportunity Programs, Outreach and Success (EOPOS) is to improve access to higher education for students from underrepresented backgrounds by implementing and administering early outreach programs and recruitment processes which develop an understanding of, and support, the pathway to higher education for students and their parents, guardians and loved ones. EOPOS builds collaborative relationships with schools, school districts, community colleges and other organizations to support this goal. EOPOS assists students in overcoming historical, traditional, social, economic, psychological, and educational barriers throughout their collegiate experience and in achieving academic success by providing a comprehensive program of support services. Typical services provided include, but are not limited to : outreach and recruitment, pre-admission counseling, screening-and-selection, professional development in teaching / learning methodologies, program orientation, summer bridge programs, financial aid advising and follow-up, special / regular admission, academic advising, tutoring, learning skills, peer mentoring, and academic / personal support services.

    Education and Experience

    Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

    Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.

    Key Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working with historically low-income and educationally disadvantaged students.
  • Experience presenting to both student and parent audiences on topics related to college knowledge and transfer college access.
  • General working knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of office methods, procedures, and practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of transfer student characteristics and needs.
  • Experience with both local and non-local transfer student populations.
  • Knowledge of and experience with EOPOS outreach programs, partnerships, and collaborations

    Compensation :

    Salary is based on your experience, education, and qualifications, within the department's budget and equity guidelines.

  • CSU Classification Salary Range : $5,083 - $7,228 / month; hiring salary not expected to exceed $5,083 / month .
