Senior Mechanic

The City of Des Moines is seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Mechanic to join our Public Works Department. This position provides lead direction to fleet staff and plays a key role in keeping the Citys diverse fleet of vehicles equipment and tools safe reliable and operating at peak performance.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys turning a wrench but also values the organizational side of fleet management and making sure the right vehicles are ready at the right time!

Pay Range : $81350.16 - $102839.04 annually. DOE Comprehensive benefit and retirement package.

In this role you will :

• Perform inspections diagnose issues and complete repairs on a variety of City vehicles and equipment.
• Schedule and track preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and ensure vehicles are available when needed.
• Maintain accurate service records and assist with parts / equipment procurement and replacement planning.
• Coordinate with outside vendors for warranty work or specialized services.
• Support budgeting by monitoring repair costs and identifying trends in fleet maintenance needs.

This position combines hands-on mechanical work with essential administrative tasks to keep the Citys fleet running smoothly.
