Dental Assistant - Pediatric Residency

Job Description

Come join the staff at OU HSC and become a part of Oklahoma's premier research university which leads the state in education and career opportunities. This position performs chair-side dental assisting in the Pediatric Dentistry clinic at OU Children's Hospital.

Duties :

• Provides chair side dental assistance, prepares and sterilizes equipment.
• Document patient care.
• Takes and develops dental radiographs (x-rays).
• May provide administrative assistance.
• Assists the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures to include but not limited to placement of bases and liners and placement and removal of rubber dams, insertion, finishing, and removal of temporary restorations.
• Prepares set-up trays for anesthetic, operative, prosthetic, periodontal, prophylactic, endodontic, and orthodontic dentistry.
• Prepares dental equipment and materials for treatment.
• Performs patient charting as instructed by the dentist.
• Follows infection control protocol and prepares and sterilizes instruments and equipment.
• Greets patient and gets them situated in the treatment room.
• Provides patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures.
• Takes impressions of patient's teeth for study casts (models of teeth).
• May perform office management tasks that often require the use of a personal computer.
• Schedules appointments, answers phones, data entry, and orders supplies.
• Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position.

Job Requirements

Required Education : High School Diploma or GED and Dental Assistant Certification

Skills :

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to follow outlined policies and guidelines.

Ability to provide patient care and customer service.

Ability to multitask

Must have a professional and positive attitude.

Certifications :

Current Oklahoma Dental Assistant Permit or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire

Current CPR Certification
