TRANSPORTATION ROUTING / DISPATCH SPECIALIST

HOURLY RATE STARTING AT $23.87 - $24.95 DEPENDING ON SIMILAR WORK EXPERIENCE AND / OR EDUCATION

SUMMARY :

The Transportation Routing / Dispatch Specialist is responsible for the daily routing and scheduling of buses, vans, drivers, and assistants to ensure all students arrive to and from school and other activities in a safe manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develops and adjust routes to maximize bus capacity while minimizing cost and transportation time.
  • Schedules buses, vans, drivers, and assistants on a daily basis to ensure all routes and field trips are covered. Assigns substitutes as needed, and drives a bus or vehicle when necessary.
  • Communicates with parents / guardians, administrators, campus staff, transportation staff, and organizations to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of students.
  • Coordinates the contracted transportation of students who require specialized transportation.
  • Coordinates the transportation of students using in-house, or contracted vehicles.
  • Periodically inspects buses / vans to ensure standards are compliant with Arizona State Statutes and Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) minimum standards.
  • Coordinates bus / van repairs with mechanics.
  • Assists with training and monthly safety meetings.
  • Updates, checks, maintains, and files daily records; such as payroll, absence logs, fuel and mileage logs, and notifies the Transportation Director of any discrepancies.
  • Prepares end-of-month reports such as fuel usage, mileage, field trips, and students transported.
  • Functions as a bus driver when necessary
  • Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines :

High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND three years of experience operating a bus and one year of dispatch experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

License and Certification Requirements :

A valid Arizona State Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger and School Bus endorsements is required.

Must possess Behind the Wheel and Instructor certifications at the time of hire.

Must possess a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card within 90 days of employment.

  • Ability to identify and address student needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer experiences, including but not limited to interacting tactfully and courteously with the public.

  • Ability to use initiative within organizational policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    Work is performed on a school bus along designated routes and in an office environment. Work requires climbing up and down bus stairs, bending, kneeling, stooping or crouching, pulling, and may require lifting up to 100 pounds. May be exposed to hot and cold temperatures, hazardous chemicals, and infectious diseases.
