Basic Purpose :
This position is responsible for, but not limited to, partnering with bankers in assigned markets to identify, foster and grow small business relationships that benefit from enhancements offered by U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loan products, as defined by the SBA and the Bank. Incumbents are expected to meet or exceed production goals, which are set annually by the Bank.
Essential Functions :
This position is expected to perform the specific duties, tasks, and responsibilities as outlined below :
- Evaluate and structure small business loan requests in accordance with SBA Guidelines and SouthState Bank's credit policies
- Interviews loan applicants, and collects and analyzes financial and related data to determine the general creditworthiness of the prospect and the merits of the specific loan request
- Establishes and negotiates terms under which credit will be extended, including the costs, repayment method, and schedule and collateral requirements with clients
- Guides clients through the SBA loan process, including eligibility determination, documentation and closing requirements
- Discuss and review loan applications with credit underwriters
- Collects and analyzes information that reflects the current creditworthiness of customers and the current merits of existing loans. May obtain information through direct inspection of the applicant's business and / or collateral, review of interim financial reports, personal interview, and other means
- Completes spreads to verify cash flow and debt service coverage ratio requirements for prospective clients
- Develops and maintain new business relationships with small business owners, referral partners, and internal banking teams to generate SBA loan opportunities
- Keeps abreast of local and national economic, financial, political, and legislative events and climates which could have an impact on corporate and commercial lending activities
- Monitors loan repayment activities and take necessary action to collect from past-due accounts
- Keeps abreast of SBA loan program regulation, and assures adherence to said regulations
- Participates in community affairs to increase the bank's visibility and to enhance new business opportunities
- Maintains professional and community relations to increase the bank's visibility and new business opportunities, and to further personal development
- Assists the conventional Relationship Managers, Small Business Bankers, or other Bank employees on SBA lending, with the expectation that the SBA Small Loan Relationship Manager will work hand in hand with bank employees to assess and process any internal loan referrals
- Ensure that the Bank's policies and procedures, code of conduct, and regulatory guidelines are strictly complied with
- Provide assistance to other employees by liaising with them through healthy and positive interactions and one-on-one conversations
- Participate in other LOB's weekly meeting calls to discuss the SBA 7(a) Small Loan program
- Be involved in performing marketing endeavors / efforts
- Seek opportunities to improve skills through cross-training offered by the Bank
- Collaborate with credit underwriting, operations, and closing teams to ensure timely and efficient loan processing.

Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance or equivalent work experience in related field1-3 years of previous government lending experience in a bank settingWill provide SBA loans in compliance with the SouthState Bank and SBA 7a small loan program policies and proceduresRequires knowledge of office practices, procedures and general office machinesMust be able to prepare documents and compose business letters and memorandumsMust be able to maintain confidentiality of customer and employee informationMust be a self-starter and able to work independentlyRequires a strong sense of urgency, initiative, and drive to complete tasks correctly, with emphasis on working with and through people in the processMust be able to work at a faster than average pace and able to multi-taskMust have good knowledge of business English, spelling and punctuationMust possess basic language skills to write and speak clearly, effectively, and appropriate to business standardsMust be able to make sound decisions, have the ability to recognize potential problems, and take corrective actionMust be professional in appearanceRegular attendance in necessaryBe a team player in recommending and referring additional products and services to other lines of business within the companyThese specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this position. In accordance with Colorado law : Colorado pay for this position is anticipated to be between $85,153.00 - $136,024.00, actual offers to be determined based on applicant's skills, experience and education.
