Welding Engineer
Overview :
We are seeking a skilled Welding Engineer with a strong focus on quality processes to join our team. The Welding Engineer will be responsible for developing and overseeing welding procedures across semi-automatic, robotic, and manual welding operations, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and managing all aspects of weld quality, including Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs), Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), and related documentation. Another key responsibility for be to establish QC / QA procedures and oversight. This role will also involve creating specialized welding procedures to meet unique customer requirements. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop, document, and implement welding procedures, including Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs), ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.G., AWS, ASME).
- Oversee the entire welding process, including semi-automatic, robotic, and manual welding operations, ensuring adherence to quality standards and specifications.
- Will be responsible for additional QC / QA duties
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of welding processes, inspections, and certifications for audit and compliance purposes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop specialized welding procedures tailored to specific customer requirements or unique project needs.
- Conduct quality assurance checks, including weld inspections, to ensure welds meet structural and performance requirements across all welding methods.
- Train and guide welding personnel on proper techniques, safety protocols, and adherence to established procedures for semi-automatic, robotic, and manual welding processes.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance weld quality, efficiency, and consistency across all welding operations.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment during all welding activities.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action processes for weld-related non-conformances.
- Stay updated on industry trends, advancements in welding technology (including robotic and semi-automatic systems), and regulatory changes to maintain best practices.
Must-Have Qualifications :
Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and / or Certified Welding Engineer (CWE) certification from the American Welding Society (AWS).Minimum of 5 years of experience in welding engineering, with a focus on quality processes and procedure development.Proven experience with welding equipment and processes, including :Semi-automatic welding (e.G., GMAW / MIG, FCAW)Robotic welding systemsManual welding (e.G., GTAW / TIG, SMAW)In-depth knowledge of welding codes and standards, such as AWS D1.1, AWS D1.6, or similar.Strong understanding of weld quality processes, including PQRs, WPS, and weld documentation.Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and train personnel.Nice-to-Have Qualifications :
Experience with ASME standards, particularly related to pressure vessel fabrication (e.G., ASME Section VIII).Previous work in an ISO-certified environment (e.G., ISO 9001 or ISO 3834).Familiarity with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, such as ultrasonic testing (UT), radiographic testing (RT), or magnetic particle testing (MT).Advanced experience with programming or optimizing robotic welding systems.Knowledge of lean manufacturing or Six Sigma principles for process optimization.
