TITLE : Antelope Valley Mentoring program coordinator
OBJECTIVE : To lead, support, and expand Stars’ mentoring, ensuring students and families
are connected to transformational relationships that promote academic, emotional, and
community well-being.
SCOPE :
This position functions across all Stars programs, engaging with students, families, mentors,
and staff to implement comprehensive mentoring.
CLASSIFICATION :
This position is classified as non-exempt.
HOURS :
40 hours per week, including occasional evenings and weekends.
COMPENSATION :
23.00–$27.00 per hour
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
MENTORING
- Implement and expand Stars’ mentoring model, with a focus on culturally affirming, faith-informed, and trauma-responsive practices.
- Recruit, screen, and train mentors; provide ongoing support and professional development.
- Engage and build relationships with system-impacted youth across Antelope Valley to recruit and enroll participants into mentoring groups. Ensure that at least 210 unduplicated youth are matched with a caring adult mentor and participate in a minimum
- of six mentoring sessions by June 1, 2027.
- Redesign and implement safety policies and engagement protocols for mentors and mentees.
- Facilitate mentor-student activities that promote trust, leadership, and academic / social development.
- Network with local mentoring organizations and explore partnerships for program expansion.
- Provide vision and structure to ensure mentoring supports students in cultural identity,
- higher education pathways, social responsibility, and spiritual exploration.
INTERNAL TEAM ROLE :
Participate in regular supervision and vision alignment meetings with the Associate Director.Collaborate with the Mentoring Team through regular meetings focused on strategy, problem-solving, alignment, and reporting.Contribute to organizational strategic planning and the development of program goals.Use monday.com to communicate progress, update tasks, and keep team membersinformed of key activities and milestones.Represent Stars at relevant community meetings, trainings, and conferences.Support broader Stars initiatives and events as needed.QUALIFICATIONS :
Minimum 5 years of experience in mentoring or youth development.Demonstrated ability to lead collaborative teams and build strong community partnerships.Proficiency in Google Workspace, project management software and experience with CRM systems.Strong facilitation, training, and communication skills.Ability to work across cultures and faith traditions with humility and sensitivity.Written / spoken Spanish is a plus.Commitment to Stars’ mission, vision, and values.RELATIONSHIPS :

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Work at a desk in an office or home-office setting; sit at a desk for extended periods of time.Work for extended periods at a computer; send and receive information using necessary optical, auditory, and manual dexterity.Use a keyboard and mouse to enter, retrieve, or transfer data.Comprehend and speak English; display reading skills to proofread and research materials.Occasional evening and weekend work for events and mentor activities.
