Job Summary

The Clinic Staff Assistant I performs front office operations in a clinical setting. Responsibilities include patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, referral management, answering inbound calls, documenting patient encounters, point-of-service collections, and patient check-in / check-out.

Job Duties

Within 612 months of hire, the Clinic Staff Assistant I is expected to demonstrate proficiency in at least two of the following front office operations :

  • Registration
  • Scheduling
  • Inbound call documentation
  • Insurance entry and verification
  • Referral management
  • Cash drawer, payment posting, and check-in / check-out

Additional responsibilities include :

  • Learning and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of Epic EMR system and front office workflows
  • Delivering superior customer service to patients, colleagues, and the community
  • Building rapport with internal and external team members to support comprehensive clinical care
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and UT Southwestern policy
  • Keeping the waiting area neat and stocked with appropriate materials
  • Ensuring adequate inventory of office supplies and patient forms
  • Performing duties that may involve :
  • Direct interaction with patients or research participants
  • Handling patient or research records (including financial records)
  • Performing other duties as assigned
  • Experience and Education

    Required :

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Prior customer service experience
  • Successful completion of CSA competencies in two (2) clinical front office operations within 612 months of hire
  • Preferred :

  • Degree in a related field and / or related experience
