Location : Miami-Fort Lauderdale Area
Department : Engineering / Façade Design
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Design Engineer with proven experience in glass, glazing, façade, or curtain wall system design, ideally for projects located in hurricane-prone regions. The ideal candidate should combine strong curtain wall design expertise with an engineering background capable of understanding and applying the structural and performance requirements unique to high-wind and impact-resistant building envelopes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and engineer curtain wall, window wall, and glazing systems to meet architectural intent, structural requirements, and applicable building codes.
- Perform structural calculations for framing, anchors, connections, and glass analysis, including design for wind load and impact resistance.
- Interpret architectural and structural drawings; develop detailed system and interface designs.
- Coordinate closely with drafting, fabrication, and project management teams to deliver accurate shop drawings and fabrication details.
- Review and evaluate test data, engineering reports, and material specifications for compliance with project requirements.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant standards (e.g., Florida Building Code, Miami-Dade NOA, ASTM, TAS).
- Provide technical support during manufacturing and installation phases to resolve design challenges.
- Participate in mock-ups and system performance testing as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering preferred).3-7 years of experience in curtain wall, glazing, or façade system design, including exposure to hurricane-impact or high-wind zone projects.Proficiency with AutoCAD (Revit and 3D modeling experience beneficial).Familiarity with structural analysis tools (e.g., STAAD, SAP2000, or similar) a plus.Strong understanding of aluminum framing, glass design, sealants, anchors, and structural silicone glazing principles.Knowledge of relevant codes and standards (Florida Building Code, ASTM E330 / E1886 / E1996, TAS protocols, etc.).Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.EIT or PE license preferred but not required.Ideal Candidate Profile
Detail-oriented and technically driven, with a deep understanding of façade system performance.Comfortable working across disciplines - architecture, structural engineering, and fabrication.Experienced in the unique challenges of designing for hurricane zones (impact resistance, cyclic pressure, waterproofing integrity).Proactive in finding practical, cost-effective solutions that maintain structural and aesthetic goals.
