TITLE : Systems Change Advocate

REPORTS TO : Director of Strategy and Education

CLASSIFICATION : Full Time Exempt

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW :

Turning Point, Inc in Mount Clemens, MI is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization qualified employer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). Turning Point, Inc empowers survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking through comprehensive services and resources while advocating for community action to end oppression and violence. We offer emergency shelter, housing, advocacy / counseling, forensic nurse examiner program & first response advocacy services, 24-hour hotline, personal protection order assistance and legal advocacy, community education, and systems change.

POSITION OVERVIEW :

The Systems Change Advocate is responsible for developing, facilitating, and implementing systems change advocacy within Macomb and St. Clair counties. This will include planning, coordinating, and facilitating the Macomb and St. Clair County Sexual Assault Response Teams (SART) and the Macomb County Domestic Violence Lethality Team. The Systems Change Advocate will serve as an integral member of the Turning Point systems change team and facilitate collaborative relationships with law enforcement, the prosecutor’s office, health care, the crime lab, and other community-based organizations to encourage and support more effective, survivor-centered, and trauma-informed responses to domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking.

SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES :

This position has no supervision responsibilities.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE :

The ideal candidate must have knowledge of survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and advocacy-based interventions with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking that are rooted in empowerment and anti-oppressive values. Specific knowledge in systems advocacy and coordinated community responses and models is desired, as is demonstrated success in developing partnerships with community systems, meeting facilitation, presenting training, and solving problems. Candidates must also have knowledge of advocacy with survivors in various systems, including healthcare, criminal justice, family court, child welfare, education, and human services. The ideal candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills.

EDUCATION :

A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, criminal justice, or related field or 2-4 years of equivalent experience required.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Implement agency and program mission and empowerment philosophy.
  • Administer and implement agency policies and procedures.
  • Maintain agency policy on confidentiality, record keeping, and professional ethics.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with systems and organizations in the community.
  • Serve as a leader and facilitator for the Macomb County and St. Clair County Sexual Assault Response Teams (SART) and the Macomb County Domestic Violence Lethality Team.
  • Coordinate effective interagency collaboration to generate a coordinated community response to meet the needs of survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking.
  • Participate in Turning Point’s systems change team to identify gaps, strategize, and develop effective survivor-centered solutions to improve system responses to domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking.
  • Provide crisis intervention, advocacy, and referrals to survivors in the community.
  • Assist in the facilitation of agency training and presentations.
  • Serve as a representative of Turning Point on community committees, task forces, and events.
  • Complete necessary documentation for reporting and evaluation purposes.
  • Cooperate with all other Turning Point programs to achieve organizational goals.
  • Conduct relationships with staff to promote mutual respect, improvement of services, and interdepartmental program development and planning.
  • Notify the Senior Director of Strategy and Education of any emergency situations that may affect Turning Point staff and clients.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Strategy and Education.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

  • Must pass central registry and criminal background check as a condition of employment.
  • Must have reliable transportation, insurance, a valid Michigan Driver’s License and a good driving record.
  • Must have the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs
  • Allows for flexibility in job function and schedule, including occasional evening and weekend hours
  • Ability to climb stairs
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
