SUBJECT : Athletic Coach - Freshman Boys Basketball South - Winter 2025
REPORTS TO : Building Principal and the Director of Intramural and Interscholastic Athletics
POSITIONS AVAILABLE :
The Winter athletic season begins December 1, 2025 and will end approximately on February 28, 2026 pending playoffs.
The Director of Intramural and Interscholastic Athletics will meet with all winter coaches prior to the start of the season.
ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE : To organize, coordinate and promote a comprehensive athletic program in the assigned sport that is designed to meet the needs and interests of the school community. To provide effective leadership that will ensure a positive learning environment and will stress the importance of academic achievement. To demonstrate a high degree of ethics, professionalism, human relations and be a positive role model for all students.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Responsible for planning, organizing and implementing the teaching of fundamentals, strategies, rules and proper conditioning in the assigned sport.
2. Issue, collect, inventory and return equipment, uniforms and other materials (e.g., team roster, first aid kit, coach’s handbook) consistent with department guidelines.
3. Responsible for adequate supervision of all students involved in the program and ensuring the safety of participants by inspecting facilities and equipment and being aware of environmental conditions.
4. Responsible for supervision of student athletes in locker rooms and on buses.
5. Instruct participants in safety procedures and in the need to report injuries to the coach and / or trainer immediately; implement appropriate procedures for handling injury situations; ensure the availability of a properly supplied first aid kit.
6. Responsible for submitting coach’s game report within 24 hours of each game.
7. Responsible for completing and submitting the following to the Athletic Director and the appropriate principal :
8. Responsible for attending a variety of sporting events and related activities, including Wellness Programs, as assigned.
9. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Intramural and Interscholastic Athletics including, but not limited to :
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
1. Expertise and training in appropriate areas of athletics (rules of sport, techniques of coaching), organization and administration
2. Thorough working knowledge of MIAA Policies and Procedures
3. Demonstrated ability to work with students, officials and the community
4. Commitment to provide equal opportunity in sports for all students
5. CPR Certification
6. First Aid Certification
7. MIAA Coach Certification

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
1. Extensive background in coaching, officiating and fundraising
2. Flexibility with work hours, duties, assignments
3. Demonstrated experience supporting students with special needs
4. Ability to speak Albanian, Arabic, Nepali, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese or an African Language.
5. Demonstrated experience with second language acquisition
NOTE :
Preference will be given to qualified candidates for coaching positions who possess MIAA certification. Individuals enrolled in courses leading to MIAA certification are eligible to apply. Contact David Shea for information and course schedule on MIAA certification.
