Electrical Tester (Testing Technician I)

Location : Colorado-based is preferred, however the Electrical Tester p osition can be located at other CLP Engineering locations, or remote in a state where CLP Engineering is registered

CLP Engineering (CLPE) is seeking an Electrical Tester (Testing Technician I) to join our Testing Team to perform mid / entry level inspections, testing, and maintaining electrical power equipment; Seeking a candidate with 2-4 years of experience who is available for up to 75% travel. Due to the nature of our work as a Federal Contractor, candidates must be a US Citizen.

CLPE is a full-service electric utility solutions engineering firm with more than twenty years’ experience in electrical utility system ownership, upgrades, maintenance and operations through our sister company, City Light & Power. CLPE offers a wide range of power system engineering services to investor-owned, municipal, cooperative, government, industrial, and commercial customers.

The Electrical Tester will work with electrical equipment, such as SF6 & vacuum circuit breakers, pad mount transformers / GSU transformers, grounding, instrument transformers, and variance of switches both manual and motor operated.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Perform mid / entry level testing of High, Medium, and Low voltage electrical power equipment under supervision.
  • Testing on apparatus includes breakers, transformers, CT’s, PT’s, cables, and grounding.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean equipment and components in a substation.
  • Consult manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and Engineering Personnel in order to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems and determine optimum equipment functioning.
  • Prepare and maintain reports detailing all tests, repairs, and maintenance performed.
  • Knowledge and understanding of practical application of electrical theory and hazards in order to perform the job requirements successfully and safely.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications :

  • Associate or Bachelor Degree in Electrical / Electronic Technology or related field, or previous military experience preferred.
  • Two to four (2-4) years of relevant testing experience with :
  • Prescence of Voltage Verification

  • Contact Resistance
  • Insulation Resistance
  • Test Equipment Set Up
  • One-line Drawings
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Available to work overtime hours and travel to the field for extended time periods.
  • Able to work well both independently and as a contributing team member.
  • Other Requirements :

  • You must be a US Citizen.
  • You will be required to obtain Military Base Access Security Clearance.
  • A valid driver’s license with a record that meets the CLP Fleet Policy is required.
  • Travel :

  • Up to 75% travel.

  • CLPE offers an excellent benefits package that includes medical insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, 401k with company contribution, paid time off and paid holidays.
  • Hourly payrate range : $25.00-$45.00 based on experience, plus eligible to participate in Short Term Incentive Plan.
