Editor Position

We are seeking a skilled Editor to support the Army University Press in the development and publication of high-quality academic and professional publications. This role is critical to ensuring editorial accuracy, style consistency, and publishing excellence across a wide range of multimedia and scholarly products including journals, books, monographs, and digital platforms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Edit and proofread manuscripts, articles, and multimedia scripts for grammar, clarity, coherence, and style adherence
  • Apply appropriate style guidelinesprimarily The Chicago Manual of Style and APAto all written materials
  • Collaborate with authors, researchers, and subject matter experts to prepare content for publication
  • Format documents using Microsoft Word, and prepare layouts using Adobe InCopy and InDesign
  • Assist in managing content across various web-based platforms
  • Ensure consistency in formatting, citation, and editorial voice across all publications
  • Contribute to project planning, timelines, and content strategy in coordination with the publishing team
  • Stay current on style guide updates and emerging editorial best practices

Education / Experience Required

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field (preferred)
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word and PowerPoint)
  • Proficient in Adobe InCopy
  • Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, SharePoint, and open-source web platforms
  • Preferred

  • Familiarity with current professional style guides, particularly CMS and APA
  • Experience editing academic, military, or government publications
  • Other Qualifications

  • Must be a United States citizen and be able to pass a background check
  • Possess clear and precise oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Able to meet requirements to work on military installation, including having a valid state driver's license and car insurance
  • Be self-motivated with ability to establish priorities and effectively manage time to complete multiple tasks within specified timeframes
  • Be organized with a strong sense of urgency
  • Adhere to established guidelines and procedures
  • Demonstrate high standards of quality and accuracy
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Capable of providing and receiving constructive editorial feedback
  • Be in attendance and punctual as scheduled
  • Ability to effectively multitask while analyzing and solving problems
