Position : Team Lead Control Engineer

Newlight is accelerating the transition of the maritime industry to sustainable energy by making sustainable shipping affordable. We focus on the current fleet by integrating hydrogen into existing engines, reducing fuel consumption and emissions with our innovative hydrogen injection system.
Role Overview :
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controls Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of control systems for our hydrogen injection solutions. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and superior performance of our systems, while supporting Newlight’s mission of maritime decarbonization.
Responsibilities :
Design and develop control systems (PLCs, HMIs, SCADA) to meet project requirements.
Program, test, and troubleshoot control algorithms and automation logic.
Integrate sensors, actuators, DAQ systems, and other hardware into vessel control systems.
Conduct diagnostics and implement improvements to enhance reliability and performance.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, and company protocols.
Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
Apply theoretical and practical understanding of fuel properties, combustion processes, and pollutant formation.
Create technical documentation (schematics, wiring diagrams, user manuals).
Requirements :
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Control Systems Engineering or related field.
5+ years of experience designing and implementing industrial control systems.
Proficiency with PLCs (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar).
Skilled in Matlab, Simulink, and HIL testing.
Knowledge of control theory, automation protocols, and system integration.
Experience with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Ethernet / IP, PROFIBUS).
Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and work on-site with combustion engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience with 2-stroke marine engines.
Knowledge of hydrogen technology, hybrid systems, and ML algorithms.
Background in maritime or automotive mechanical / electrical systems.
Familiarity with Python / PyTorch, Next.js, LabVIEW, MATLAB.
Experience developing HMI and SCADA systems.
