Job Purpose
The Media Services Technician operates, maintains, distributes, and supports audio-visual systems across Pomona College’s technology-enhanced classrooms, meeting spaces, and event venues. This role ensures seamless multimedia experiences and exceptional customer service while troubleshooting AV and computing issues.
Essential Functions
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for classroom and meeting space AV systems
- Support AV needs for major campus events (e.g., Alumni Weekend, Family Weekend, Convocation, Board of Trustees meetings)
- Install software and firmware updates on classroom computers, control systems, and laptops
- Track and maintain inventory of media equipment and supplies
- Provide technical support for web conferencing platforms
- Assist with digital signage systems (software, displays, computers)
- Log equipment updates, relocations, and inventory changes
- Document procedures, workflows, and technical protocols
- Stay current with emerging AV technologies through training and conferences
- Complete special projects and assignments as needed
- Deliver high-quality customer service to faculty, staff, students, and guests
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts, Educational Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferredMinimum of 2 years of hands-on experience supporting AV systems and media technologyProficiency with both Windows and macOS platforms, including presentation and productivity softwareRequired Knowledge and Skills
Technical ExpertiseAV systems : signal flow, control systems (Crestron, Extron), DSPs, switchersAudio engineering : microphone types, gain structure, EQ, feedback control, live mixingProjector setup : focusing, color correction, keystone adjustmentsWeb conferencing : Zoom, Microsoft Teams—setup, integration, troubleshootingDigital signage : content scheduling, display calibration, software configurationPreventive maintenance : cleaning, firmware updates, lifecycle trackingIT and Systems Integration
