    Job Summary

    Teach courses including, but not limited to Public Speaking, Argumentation, or Forensics. Priority is on excellent teaching, along with assessment, and curriculum development.

  • Provide high quality, engaging online instruction;
  • Teach courses in a special area of interest;
  • Develop course syllabi for assigned courses and effective varied instruction techniques that promote learning;
  • Evaluate student performance and achievement of course, program, and general education learning outcomes;
  • Recommend appropriate texts and teaching aids which will be of the most value to the teaching-learning process;
  • Contribute to the college-wide assessment of student learning outcomes;
  • Actively participate in assisting the College in maintaining standards required for accreditation;
  • Personal and professional development to include :

    o Maintain a high level of content knowledge and engage in ongoing professional development in relation to one’s field and teaching.

  • o Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge and competence in the appropriate academic disciplines;
  • Demonstrate mutual respect and civility and coordinate activities to promote the highest level of student learning and productive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administration, and community members;
  • Assist others on an as-needed basis;
  • For positions that require online instruction, instructors must be willing to complete an online “Introduction to Online Teaching at Northwest College” training module prior to employment.

    Required Training and Experience

  • Master’s degree and a minimum of 18 graduate credits in the course subject area from a regionally accredited college or university;
  • Working knowledge of the pedagogical and technical aspects of online teaching (knowledge of the Moodle LMS is preferred);
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development;
  • Demonstrated commitment to assessment of student academic achievement

    Preferred Training & Experience

  • Proficiency in computer applications;
  • Demonstrated understanding and a commitment to community college mission

    Licensing Requirements

  • Proficiency in written, oral, and interpersonal communication;
  • Skill in developing rapport with students;
  • Demonstrated willingness to participate in a collaborative team approach to education.

    Physical Requirements

    Positions in this class typically require : fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

    Sedentary Work : Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and / or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
