POSITION DEFINITION

The Town of East Hartford seeks a knowledgeable and experienced Assessor to lead the real and personal property assessment function for municipal tax purposes. This position involves technical and administrative oversight of property valuation, Grand List preparation, and compliance with Connecticut General Statutes. The Assessor plays a critical role in ensuring fair and equitable property assessments and supervises a team of assessment professionals.

This is a key leadership role responsible for :

• Evaluating real and personal property
• Preparing the annual Grand List
• Conducting field inspections
• Recommending assessment policies
• Planning and directing departmental activities
• Making complex technical assessment decisions

The Assessor operates under the general direction of the Finance Director and in compliance with Connecticut General Statutes . The role also includes supervisory responsibilities over staff involved in assessment processes and public service delivery.
