What it's like to be a Firearms and Security Instructor

As a part-time Firearms and Security Instructor at Advantage Training Academy, your day-to-day expectations will include delivering engaging training sessions on firearms safety and security protocols. You will be responsible for developing lesson plans, conducting practical demonstrations, and assessing trainee performance to ensure effective learning outcomes. To succeed as a part-time Firearms and Security Instructor at Advantage Training Academy, you will need a robust set of skills and expertise. A minimum of five years of experience in security operations, including at least two years in a training or instructional capacity, is essential. You must hold a valid firearms instructor certification (e.g., NRA, POST) and be familiar with state and federal laws related to security and firearms. Proficiency in firearms handling, defensive tactics, and conflict resolution are critical. Strong presentation and communication skills are necessary to effectively engage diverse groups and adapt training methods to various learning styles.

Familiarity with scenario-based training and simulation technologies will enhance your instructional capabilities. Additionally, you should exhibit strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate training records and evaluate trainee performance. A military or law enforcement background is highly preferred to bolster your credibility and effectiveness in this role.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are :

  • Valid firearms instructor certification (e.g., NRA, POST, or equivalent) and either currently licensed through the LSBPSE or have the ability to become licensed.
  • Extensive knowledge of state and federal laws governing security operations and firearms use.
  • Proven experience in both armed and unarmed security techniques.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to teach diverse groups and adapt training methods to different learning styles.
  • Proficiency in defensive tactics, conflict de-escalation, and emergency response protocols.
  • Current certifications in CPR / First Aid (preferred but not required).
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate's or bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.
  • Military or Law Enforcement background preferred.

Preferred Skills :
