Title : Registered Respiratory Therapist – NICU (RRT-NICU)

Location : Plattsburgh, NY

Duration : 26 weeks

Shift : Night Shift, 3x12-Hour (19 : 00 – 07 : 30); every other weekend; flexible scheduling required

Job Responsibilities :

  • Provide advanced respiratory care to neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients in critical care, nursery, and emergency settings.
  • Deliver and manage life-support systems, including mechanical ventilation, CPAP, and oxygen therapy for neonatal and pediatric populations.
  • Monitor, assess, and document patient responses to therapy, adjusting ventilator settings as necessary per physician direction.
  • Administer medications and aerosolized treatments safely in accordance with physician orders and hospital protocols.
  • Collaborate with NICU nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to develop individualized respiratory care plans.
  • Respond to high-acuity and emergency situations, including neonatal resuscitation, codes, and rapid responses.
  • Assist with neonatal transport and provide respiratory support in delivery and operating room settings as required.
  • Support additional hospital departments such as the Emergency Room or Nursery based on staffing needs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation within Epic EMR.

    • Required Skills & Experience :

  • Minimum 2–3 years of recent Respiratory Therapy experience in an acute care or NICU environment.
  • At least 2 years of neonatal / pediatric experience (NRP certification or documented exposure required).
  • Epic EMR experience within the past 2 years – Required (non-negotiable).
  • Proficient in neonatal ventilator management, oxygen delivery systems, and resuscitation procedures.
  • Strong ability to manage workload in a Level II / III NICU or similar acute care environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Must be flexible to meet changing patient care needs and able to work varying schedules.

    • Education & Certifications :

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  • NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – Required.
  • Active New York State Respiratory Therapist License – Required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required.
