Title of Job : Assistant Dean for Wellbeing

POSITION SUMMARY :

The Assistant Dean for Wellbeing is responsible for providing individual support and case management services to students, as well as the development, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of student wellbeing programs, to enhance the wellbeing of and enrich the overall lives of HMC students. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Wellbeing and collaborates with other staff in the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) in supporting overall goals and strategies of Harvey Mudd College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Wellbeing, provide individual or group guidance and support to students with personal issues related to emotional health and wellbeing. Provide individual or group sessions with students on additional wellbeing-related topics such as time management, study habits, environmental & physical wellbeing, etc.

Use evidence based practices to plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate wellbeing programming that covers a wide range of topics and is offered to students and, periodically, to faculty and staff. Program format may include tabling events for raising awareness, lunchtime lectures or workshops, leading presentations and trainings, residence hall events, applied workshops, and other tasks. Collaborate with other DSA staff and offices in planning, delivering and assessing programs.

Documenting notes during weekly Care Team meetings designed for supporting students in distress by collaborating with members of the Care Team. Record updates as appropriate in a data management system (e.g., Maxient).

Supervise student employees including Peer Health Educators and Project Connect Facilitators. Advise programming and provide feedback on performance.

Evaluate and assess Wellbeing efforts by collecting and analyzing participant feedback. Develop and present assessment reports as appropriate, including Board of Trustee updates, individual event assessment and annual Wellbeing assessment report.

Act as a liaison between DSA / The Office of Wellbeing and the student population (including student leaders and groups), other campus departments and personnel, and other Claremont College Services constituencies for collaborative programming efforts.

Promote and advocate for The Office of Wellbeing on campus via in-person interaction, informational handouts, and electronic communication including email, social networking platforms, and the DSA website.

Perform administrative tasks for The Office of Wellbeing such as updating calendars, reserving event rooms, purchasing supplies, working with vendors, and managing student payroll.

Participate in the development and administration of DSA policies and procedures and in particular to those involving student wellbeing.

Ensure information and records containing confidential / sensitive information are secured and maintained in accordance with internal and external standards.

Maintain knowledge and skills and remain current in issues related to areas of collegiate health and wellbeing promotion.

Conduct BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students) and CASICS (Cannabis Screening and Intervention for College Students) programs for students.

The Assistant Dean serves as a Responsible Employee for Title IX and Campus Security Authority (CSA) for the Clery Act

Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience :

Education : A Master’s degree in social work, counseling, public health, or psychology is preferred. A Bachelor’s degree and work toward the aforementioned fields and relevant experience are required.

Experience : Previous experience providing individual support and case management services to college students and wellbeing programming experience are preferred.

Licenses / Certifications : Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the College’s automobile insurance carrier. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Trainer certification and Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

1. Knowledge of psychology, wellbeing, higher education, and social science research to enhance programming and educational efforts by The Office of Wellbeing.

2. Good interpersonal skills to work cooperatively and sensitively with individuals from diverse cultures and ethnic groups, financial backgrounds, and identities.

3. Good management and organizational skills, ability to exercise independent discretion in decision-making, and self-motivation to coordinate multiple projects and balance various tasks simultaneously.

4. Ability and willingness to speak publicly during programming events.

5. General knowledge of privacy issues and regulations (FERPA).

6. Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and off-campus personnel.

7. Strong written and oral communication skills.

8. Ability to safeguard and maintain confidentiality and confidential and sensitive information that exists in any format.

Remote Work Eligibility :

Category B :

All staff positions, regardless of remote work eligibility, require an initial 30-calendar-day on-campus work period. Based on an evaluation by the supervisor and area Vice President, this position is classified as Category B as defined in the College’s, with occasional ad-hoc remote work flexibility (as needed). Your approved remote work arrangements under Category B allow for up to 1 remote work days per week during the academic year and up to 3 remote work days during the non-academic year. Please note these days may vary depending on departmental and College needs.

Your standard working hours will generally be from 8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m., Monday through Friday, though these hours may vary depending on departmental and College needs. All remote work arrangements, including ad-hoc remote work, must be approved by the direct supervisor, area Cabinet member, and Human Resources, and are subject to periodic review based on institutional needs. These arrangements are neither guaranteed nor considered entitlements and may change due to factors such as employee performance, evolving business needs, or changes to the position.

Physical Requirements :

While performing the duties of this job, the staff member is regularly required to sit; stand, use hands and fingers and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The individual must regularly lift and / or carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Hours :

Regular office hours are 8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m. However, days and hours may vary due to the needs of the department or the College.

Classification :

This is an exempt, full-time, regular, benefits eligible, position.

Salary :

$68,640 - $73,110 per year
