Summary

As a Child Life Specialist, you will play a vital role in planning, developing, and delivering Child Life programming to cater to the psychological, emotional, and developmental needs of pediatric patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate, schedule, and supervise special events for inpatient pediatric areas.
• Collaborate with marketing and public affairs for promotional activities, including media arrangements and donor events.
• Develop strategic plans to alleviate children's fears regarding the healthcare environment.
• Prepare patients and families for procedures and the healthcare setting using therapeutic play activities.
• Evaluate children’s developmental stages, coping abilities, and emotional well-being.
• Assist families in identifying coping strategies for managing stress due to hospitalization, illness, or loss.
• Implement tailored services to meet individual children's needs.
• Provide consultation to healthcare team members regarding developmental and behavioral considerations impacting patient care.
• Maintain accurate records of Child Life services provided to patients.
• Oversee budgeting and resource management for the Child Life department.
• Offer Child Life consultations for siblings of patients to support their needs during hospital visits.

Minimum Qualifications

Physical Demands

Ability to lift and carry between 40-50 lbs. Frequent standing and walking are required; patient transporters may walk 8-10 miles per shift. Activities may include kneeling, bending, and performing CPR as needed.
