Wade Institute of Technology (WIT) is an innovative, mission-driven institution focused on advanced technology education, community development, and real-world engineering projects. As part of WIT's telecommunications and infrastructure initiative, we are deploying lean, efficient LTE networks to activate our licensed 600 MHz spectrum and support future applied research.
We are seeking a hands-on, entrepreneurial Cellular Network Deployment Engineer who thrives in multidisciplinary environments. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building things from the ground up and applying engineering creativity to real-world challenges.
Position Overview :
You will lead the design and deployment of small-scale LTE networks using WIT's FCC-licensed 600 MHz spectrum. This includes RF planning, site selection, equipment installation, optimization, and preparation of FCC construction filings.
This is a high-impact role with significant autonomy - perfect for a resourceful local engineer with strong technical intuition.
Key Responsibilities :
- Design and deploy LTE (and future 5G NR) networks under WIT's 600 MHz licenses.
- Conduct RF propagation analysis, planning, and coverage modeling.
- Identify and secure feasible sites (rooftops, structures, temporary platforms).
- Install, configure, and test radios, antennas, and supporting network hardware.
- Prepare FCC-required construction notifications and engineering exhibits.
- Manage vendor relationships and sourcing of radio and backhaul equipment.
- Perform field testing, drive tests, and network optimization.
- Develop creative, cost-efficient solutions that meet WIT's deployment goals.
- Collaborate with WIT's leadership on strategic and educational applications of the network.
Minimum Qualifications :
Experience deploying LTE, 4G, or 5G cellular networks.Strong understanding of RF engineering and FCC spectrum rules.Hands-on experience with small cell or macro equipment.Ability to independently manage full technical project cycles.Entrepreneurial mindset with problem-solving ability across multiple technical domains.Strong communication and documentation skills.Must be authorized to work in the United States.Preferred Qualifications :
Experience working with the 600 MHz band.Familiarity with vendors such as Baicells, Airspan, Nokia, Ericsson, or similar.Knowledge of backhaul solutions : fiber, microwave, CBRS, private LTE, or Starlink.Cross-disciplinary technical ability (networking, IT systems, field engineering).Local residency in Palo Alto CA, Rochester MN or Albany GA regions.What WIT Offers :
