SUMMARY :
Responsible for administering, managing, directing and planning the day-to-day operations of group benefits programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Research and Development :
- Research employee benefit plans and vendors to identify those that present the best value
- Design, recommend and implement benefit programs
- Assist in the management of the benefit plan renewal process
- Collect experience data from available resources
- Examine possible plan designs or benefit cost changes
Administration – Strategic : Design, Direct, Comply :
Serve as primary contact for plan vendors and third party administratorsDetermine the best plan options by working with the vendors / administratorsCoordinate transfer of data to external contacts for services, premiums and plan administrationWork effectively to make sure the plans run smoothlyInvestigate discrepancies and provide information in non-routine situationsEvaluate and revise internal processes to reduce costs and increase efficiencyPlan, schedule and direct workEnsure compliance with applicable government regulations esp. Sarbanes OxleyAssure timeliness and accuracy of required filingsEnsure administrative compliance with plan documentsAdministration – Processing and Functional : Daily, Weekly, Monthly :
Audit and pay all benefit invoicesInterface with HR Assistant to set up employee benefit deductionsAdminister COBRA, Worker's Compensation and UnemploymentMaintain benefit vendor databasesCommunicate with Lab Administrators on any benefit issuesCommunicate with employees to answer questions or resolve outstanding issuesResponsible for all employee benefits-related master file changes into corp data baseAdminister Family Medical Leave approvalsEvaluate, Measure, Audit :
Audit the accuracy and performance of functions performed by support staffAnalyze the current benefits, evaluating the usage, services, coverage, effectiveness, cost, plan experience, and competitive trends in benefits programs and identify the company's stancePerform plan auditsReview cost estimates / projections and relevant statistical analyses regarding modifications in benefit programs and implementation of new programsSurvey benefit trends. Complete benefit surveys and review information obtained from the resultsMonitor administrative costs of benefit programs and recommend cost containment strategies including alternative methods for administration and funding.Customer Service, Communication, Training
Provide customer service support to internal and external customersDevelop communication tools to enhance understanding of the company's benefit packageDesign and distribute materials for benefit orientations, open enrollment and summary plan descriptionsCreate and conduct presentations using audiovisual tools such as PowerPoint and videosProvide training and support to corporate and field staffOther duties may be assigned.
