We're currently seeking candidates for the position of Project Estimator to join our team in Detroit, Michigan. This in-person position reports to the Director of Preconstruction and will be responsible for preparing comprehensive and competitive bid proposals and preliminary budgets for new construction projects. Salary for this exempt position is to be commensurate according to candidate’s skills and experience level. The position offers an attractive benefit package that includes medical insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, HMO and Health Savings plan options available), dental coverage, vision coverage, life insurance, short-term disability, and long-term disability plans on the first of the month following the date of hire. Paid time off and 401K plan offered upon reaching eligibility. Position Description : Assist the Director of Preconstruction in reviewing incoming bid opportunities. Identify and assess the bid to determine the scope of work, impact of site logistics, and the risks associated with the construction, and prepare bid alternates if required. Perform quantity take-offs and compile the quantities of labor, material, and equipment with the costs associated with each resource as applicable. Labor and materials depend on the specific trade. Attend pre-bid walkthroughs to assess and analyze the site conditions and how they might have an impact on subcontractors / trade contractors to perform work on site. Develop subcontractor scopes of work to better align trades and ensure complete and well-coordinated estimates. Communicate effectively and clearly with the owner and / or client on items requiring additional clarity during the bid process. Communicate with the subcontractors / vendors to determine the scope of work and address any issues related to the bid package / scope of work. Receive and analyze subcontractor bid proposals based on price and scope of work, and select the subcontractor to perform the work. Address ongoing construction change orders and prepare accurate change order estimates to avert budget overruns. Assemble complete proposals, including completion of owner and / or client proposal requirements, including, but not limited to, proposal forms, bid breakdowns, unit pricing, logistics plans, project narratives where required, and associated bid clarifications supporting our understanding of the project requirements. Address post-bid changes and prepare a comprehensive final bid price / cost breakdown. Perform additional duties as assigned. Requirements : BS in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent. Able to effectively communicate with internal and external customers. Possess a high level of attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to travel minimally (10%) overnight. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
