Job Summary :
The Pre-Operative Registered Nurse (RN) plays a key role in preparing patients for surgical procedures. This position is responsible for conducting thorough pre-operative assessments, verifying patient history, initiating IV therapy, administering pre-op medications, and ensuring all required labs, documentation and consents are complete and accurate. The Pre-Op RN collaborates closely with anesthesia, surgery, and other interdisciplinary teams to ensure patient readiness, safety, and comfort prior to surgery.

- 3 - 10 hour shifts
- Monday - Friday
- Variable late Shifts that flexes 05 : 00 - 19 : 00 dependent on surgery schedule
Essential Job Functions :
Advocate for patients’ rights, preferences, and needs, ensuring that they receive high-quality, compassionate care that is tailored to their individual circumstancesProject a professional demeanor and appearance while maintaining the confidentiality of the patient, coworkers, and the organization, as appropriateAssess patient health problems and needs to develop, implement, and evaluate care in collaboration with healthcare teamEnsure infection control protocols and safety standards are followed in all aspects of patient carePromptly records all care information concisely, accurately, and completelyRespond to emergency situations using appropriate interventionsPromptly report and document any occurrences of unusual events, safety concerns, or incidents in accordance with organization policies and proceduresReview patient medical history, current medications, allergies, and surgical consent formsMonitor and record baseline vital signs, ensuring stability prior to surgeryInitiate and manage IV lines and administer pre-operative medications per provider orders and document responsesCommunicate any patient concerns or changes in condition to the provider and anesthesiaOperate and monitor medical equipment relevant to patient careDescribes the perioperative experience to the patient and significant other including what to expect before, during, and after procedurePerforms all preoperative testing needed the day of surgery, i.e. labs, EKGEnsure compliance with Universal Protocol by initiating a pre-procedural 'Time Out' to prevent wrong-site, wrong-procedure, and wrong-patient errorsAssists in positioning and responding to the comfort and safety of the patientProvides for accurate care and handling of specimensInventories all patient belongings preoperativelyUse the organization's secure messaging platform in accordance with departmental protocols, including timely receipt and responses to communicationsPerforms other duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities :

Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing program requiredCurrent RN licensure in the State of WisconsinBLS certification is required upon hireMust be able to achieve ACLS and PALS certification within six months of hirePrevious perioperative or general nursing experience is preferredMust possess a cell phone that interfaces with the organization’s secure messaging systemBenefits :
