PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to read, connect, and disconnect water meters for billing purposes. Employees in this classification read and re-read meters; assists with service orders; and cleans and pumps out water meter boxes as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Reads and / or re-reads meters; keys in readings in a handheld computer.
• Completes meter check request; notifies customers of leaks and high usage.
• Informs office of meters needing service; provides office with other information, comments of hazards, or service statistics.
• Performs temporary service shut-offs at customer request.
• Cleans and / or pumps out meters or boxes; assists with changing electric and water meters; assists with meter repairs.
• Schedules maintenance and maintains cleanliness of City vehicle.
• Operates a handheld computer, iPad, laptop, motor vehicle, monocular, scope, hand tools, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.

Requirements :

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED; no previous work experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Kentucky driver’s license.
