Associate Director Of The Anesthesia Doctor Of Nursing Program

The Associate Director of the Anesthesia Doctor of Nursing Program (ADNP) is classified as a regular faculty member with an academic rank. The Associate Director is responsible for leading the ADNP in the absence of the Program Director (10%). The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, and evaluating the clinical residency curriculum while ensuring compliance with program standards and accreditation agencies, all under the supervision of the program director. This role also serves as a liaison among the program, students, faculty, and the campus community, dedicating 90% of their time to these responsibilities.

The ADNP Associate Director / Clinical Coordinator oversees the regional clinical coordinators and ensures that clinical site coordinators comply with COA and student clinical experience criteria. This position requires the ADNP Associate Director to participate in significant scholarship and active service, as outlined in the Samuel Merritt University (SMU) Faculty Handbook. Additionally, a demonstrated record of active service within the nurse anesthesia professional community is expected to enhance this leadership role.

Administrative And Clinical Coordination 85%

  • Chair of the Clinical Review Committee
  • Collect pertinent information from clinical sites and disseminate the information to faculty during the curriculum review processes
  • Maintain clinical residency evaluations including Summative Student evaluations by site coordinators and Preceptors, and Clinical Site Evaluations by students. Occasional daily student evaluations by preceptors as needed.
  • Generate rotation grades for the clinical courses.
  • Develop clinical rotation schedule.
  • Prepares periodic reports to faculty on student(s) performance in the clinical setting identifying didactic areas if weakness, when appropriate, inform faculty of the clinical education phase.
  • Develop plans for improvement for students struggling in clinical residency in coordination with site clinical coordinator (and PAC committed if needed.)
  • Assist in the development of accreditation material and documentation.
  • Actively pursues additional sites and clinical opportunities for the program.
  • Ensure that the ADNP remains in compliance with all SMU, BRN, CCNE, and COA policies and procedures, as it applies to the clinical setting
  • Supervise Regional Clinical Coordinators (RCC)
  • Leads clinical faculty recruitment and retention efforts and recommend appointment, reappointment, termination, or change in contract terms for ADNP clinical faculty in collaboration with the Program Director.
  • Coordinate annual review and printing of program, the ADNP Student Clinical Handbook, and other clinical experience publications as required.
  • Ensure availability of self to students for advisement via regular office hours and as needed, based on individual circumstances.
  • Complete clinical site visits on an annual basis or more frequently as needed.

Scholarly Duties 5%

  • Provide oversight into the development, implementation, and evaluation of program ADNP Project standards.
  • Service To The Program, College, University, And Professional Community 10%

  • Participation in programs, college and university committees.
  • Participation in new student orientation activities, program open
  • houses, admissions, accreditation activities, exit interviews of
  • graduates and special events.
  • Represents the program at the local, state and national meeting levels.
  • Maintains effective professional relationships within the program, the CRNA profession, in the clinical environment and the community.
  • Educations, Experience, And Certifications

  • Earned doctorate in nursing or related field from a regionally accredited institution / program.
  • Prelicensure master's or doctoral degree with a Nurse Anesthesia major from a regionally accredited institution and nationally accredited nurse anesthesia program.
  • Three or more years of clinical experience in the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) role.
  • Current unrestricted license as an Advanced Practice Nurse.
  • Current CRNA certification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
  • Current BLS, ACLs and PALs certifications
  • Current CITI certificate
  • Experience as a faculty member in a nursing education program at the College / University level.
  • Experience with virtual / distance teaching platform experience.
  • Experience with simulation in education.
  • Evidence of scholarship leads to professional presentations, research, and / or publications.
  • Service in professional organizations (e.g. membership and / or committee involvement).
  • Required Skills

  • Demonstrated expertise in nurse anesthesia knowledge and clinical practice.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer skills using web-based applications and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Competence in use of technology in teaching and distance learning.
  • Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning.
  • Must value continued scholarship and service to the school, university and community.
