Lead E-Commerce Developer (Full-Stack, React / Next.js, Java)

Location : Remote, anywhere in the U.S.

Type : Contract-to-Hire (permanent for the right candidate)

Compensation : $200K salary

Start Date : ASAP

Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Lead E-Commerce Developer to set technical direction and guide a team of engineers. This role blends deep technical expertise with strong leadership and mentorship — ideal for someone who thrives in code, sets high standards, and enables others to succeed.

The right candidate has 10+ years of full-stack experience , with mastery of React / Next.js and Java , and proven architectural vision. You’ll be responsible for driving modernization efforts, overseeing code reviews, and contributing directly to development while elevating the team around you.

Responsibilities

Lead technical direction for full-stack e-commerce platform development.

Contribute hands-on with React / Next.js, Java, and JavaScript .

Define and enforce architectural standards for scalability, maintainability, and security.

Guide a team of 7–8 engineers through mentorship, code reviews, and best practices (no direct reports).

Ensure clean, efficient, and well-tested code.

Drive modernization initiatives, including multi-tenant architecture and legacy system retirement .

Partner cross-functionally with stakeholders to align technical solutions with business goals.

Maintain a healthy balance between new feature delivery and technical debt management .

Requirements

10+ years of full-stack development experience (under 8 years considered too junior).

Strong proficiency in React and Next.js (required).

Proficiency in Java and JavaScript .

Experience with microservices architecture and high-transactional platforms.

Proven track record of technical leadership, architecture, and mentoring .

E-commerce experience (preferred, not required).

Nice-to-Haves

Adobe Experience Manager (AEM)

jQuery (big plus)

CommerceTools or other headless commerce solutions

Experience integrating with ERP, CRM, OMS, or payment systems
