RN Clinical Skills Resource Nurse

Overview

Full-Time, Part-Time, PRN Evenings 11am-11pm, every third weekend

The Clinical Resource Nurse supports skill development among Acute RNs in off hours. This role is available to assist Acute RNs with nursing skills when the nurse has never performed the skill or when completion of the skill is particularly challenging or poses a risk to patient safety. Key skills included in but not limited to this work include peripheral IV access, IV / central line maintenance / troubleshooting, blood draws / labs outside the scope of phlebotomy, NG / feeding tube insertion and maintenance, urinary catheter insertion / maintenance, peritoneal dialysis, wound assessment and wound care including wound vacs, ostomy troubleshooting, and tracheostomy care. Out of scope for this role is admissions, discharges, transfers, patient education, code blue / RRT response, guest relations and education related to new initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Complete a standard rounding schedule on nursing units throughout the shift to evaluate needs for skill assistance / education.
• Collaborate with House Supervisors for opportunities to assist with skill completion.
• Round on PD patients each evening to assure proper setup, functioning, maintenance and potential troubleshooting related to the treatment.
• Round on wound vac patients to assess for issues needing assistance.
• Assist RNs with nursing skill development or complete nursing skill if risk to patient safety / satisfaction is present, assuring that the primary RN is present during completion of the skill.

Qualifications

Education :

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or IA Board of Nursing approved nursing program.

License(s) / Certification(s) :

• Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa

Experience :

• Two years or more experience as an RN in an inpatient setting and competent in a broad range of nursing skills

Other :

• Level 3 Medium Work : Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
