Department Summary

The College of Education at the UO is a community of leading researchers and practitioners dedicated to transformational scholarship, integrated teaching, and collaborative practice designed to enhance individual lives and systems within a culture that values diversity and promotes respect and inclusion. The COE is home to 3 academic departments, 14 academic degree programs, 14 research and outreach units, the HEDCO Clinic, and the HEDCO Institute. The College of Education is proud to partner with the Coalition of Oregon School Administrators (COSA) to offer a variety of programs to support current and future administrators in Oregon starting in July 2023. Pending curriculum review approvals, program offerings will include : Principal License, Principal License with a master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Professional Administrator License, Professional Administrator License with an Education Specialist Degree, and Doctorate in Educational Leadership.

Position Summary

The University of Oregon’s Administrator Licensure Program in the College of Education seeks to create a pool of qualified candidates to fill periodic instructional and supervision vacancies. Positions are limited-duration appointments potentially renewable for up to a total of three years. Professors of Practice / Administrator Licensure instructional and internship supervisors work with the Administrator Licensure program’s students and faculty to apply their professional experience leading schools at local and system levels to programs.

Professors of Practice / Internship Supervisors provide individual and group coaching and feedback for Administrator Licensure candidates during their internship site experiences.

Professors of Practice teach graduate-level courses in the Administrator Licensure program. Instructional duties include course preparation, teaching, preparation and evaluation of student assignments and exams, and maintenance of office hours.

Topic areas for instruction and supervision may include : educational policy, governance and ethics, school and community relations, evidence-based decision-making, education law, education finance, etc.

Positions are limited-duration appointments potentially renewable for up to a total of three years. Appointment level varies, based on supervisory or instructional load. Hours vary depending on the schedules of students under supervision and / or course schedule.

Minimum Requirements

  • Earned master’s degree in Education or a closely related field.
  • Progressive experience leading educational institutions at the local, district, and state levels (normally 12 years).
  • A record of excellence in establishing and maintaining organizational partnerships with education stakeholders at the local and state level.
  • A record of experience developing and implementing policies and / or programs designed to improve student learning and educational outcomes.
  • A record of, or evidence of potential for, excellence in teaching and student advising at the graduate level.
