Illumination Health + Home is a growing non-profit organization dedicated towards disrupting the cycle of homelessness by providing targeted, interdisciplinary services in our recuperative care centers, emergency shelters, housing services and children’s and family programs.

IF currently has 13+ facilities with 22+ micro-communities scattered across Orange County, Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire.

Job Description :

  • The Cook 2 is responsible for assisting with all kitchen operations to ensure daily tasks are completed. The pay range for this position is $20-22 per hour , depending on experience.

The Schedule for this role is  Tuesday - Saturday, 9 :

  • 30am - 6 : 00pm.

    • Responsibilities :

  • Food Preparation :   Complete all tasks, in order, on the prep list provided by Lead Cook and / or Culinary Manager.  Washing, chopping, and sorting ingredients such as fruits, vegetables, and meats.  Labeling and stocking ingredients on easily accessible shelves.  Handle basic cooking duties such as parboiling, preparing salads, etc.  Customer Service :   Assist with serving meals during meal and snack times.  Communicate client needs to Lead Cook and / or Culinary Manager.  Work with volunteers and help foster a welcoming work environment.  Health, Safety, and Sanitation :   Assist with maintaining compliance with all local, state, and federal health and safety regulations.  Adhere to proper handling, storage, and rotation (FIFO) of food items to minimize waste and maintain freshness.  Maintain a clean and sanitary work area.  Work in alignment with the company’s Guiding Principles  Cleaning dishes, washing cooking utensils and cookware, taking out the trash, and sanitizing kitchen.   Miscellaneous :   Attend required training and meetings as required.  Required : High School Diploma or equivalent.  Some managerial / leadership experience  Basic computer skills, including the ability to send and receive emails and summarize data in spreadsheets.  Strong communication and listening skills.   Dependable with good time management and attention to detail.   Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow privacy rules.   Preferred : Bilingual in English and Spanish.  Minimum 3 years of experience working in a restaurant or catering setting  Benefits : Medical Insurance funded up to 91% by Illumination Foundation (Kaiser and Blue Shield), depending on the plan Dental and Vision Insurance Life, AD&D and LTD Insurance funded 100% by Illumination Foundation Employee Assistance Program Professional Development Reimbursement 401K with Company Matching 10 days vacation PTO / year 6 days sick PTO / year 10 days holiday PTO / year Potential eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSFL) for federally qualified loans Powered by JazzHR
