Job Summary / Basic Function
The Veterinary Technology coordinator is a full-time position responsible for assisting the Program Director with the daily operations of the veterinary technology program. Duties include managing all animal care facilities and serving as the purchasing agent for the veterinary technology program. Duties also include assistance with development of program policies, documents, and the AVMA accreditation requirements and processes as well as assisting in veterinary technology laboratories.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
This position is considered an essential personnel position.
- Maintaining and supervising health of all animals housed in the University of California Veterinary Technology - Program facilities.
- Oversee all treatments, record keeping and involved personnel (student workers).
- Report any abnormalities of animals to the Veterinarian of record.
- Coordinate all donations and admission procedures of all program animals.
- Maintain records on all animals within the facilities.
- Manage all discharge and adoption procedures.
- Formulate and maintain a standard operation procedure for the animal care areas.
- Maintain equipment and facilities as related to animal care
- Responsible for OSHA compliance in the animal care area.
- Responsible for AVMA, USDA, and all other inspections.
- Coordinate IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee) activities. This includes working with professors on a rotation schedule for the animals and the protocols. Acts as the point person to the IACUC (collecting the plans and going to the meetings) along with the program director.
- Serves as Veterinary Technology Emergency Coordinator, including developing and coordinating evacuation plans for animals.
- Assisting in assigned Veterinary Technology purchasing agent
- Submit purchase orders for all equipment and supplies
- Authorize payments of all orders received, reconciling invoices and statements of purchased supplies and equipment and services rendered.
- Maintain veterinary technology storage areas
- Supervise maintenance of Vet. The. Equipment and laboratories
- Submit work orders for cleaning, repairing and maintenance of all Veterinary Technology Facilities
- Assisting in identifying sites for clinical experiences.
- Assisting in developing program policies and documents
- Coordinating student enrollment in federal, state, and local veterinary technician associations
OTHER DUTIES :
Enhancing current knowledge and skills through attending conferences, classes, reading journals and independent study.Maintaining active licensureMaintaining membership in appropriate federal, state and local veterinary technician associationsPerforming all responsibilities in accordance with State and local veterinary technician associations.Performing all responsibilities in accordance with State and Federal regulations as well as College policies and procedures.Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Minimum of Education / TrainingRequired Education Summary
Requirements include licensed as a Veterinary Technician and one year of clinical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of the basic principles and practices and the respective standards of measurement applied within a management discipline.Knowledge of modern office practices and equipment.Knowledge of basic PC hardware and standard software.Ability to use a PC to collect, compile, and assemble data and reports for use in the conduct of studies.Ability to analyze varied data by applying the information against interpretive standards in the formulation of recommended action.Ability to perform detailed work involving written information by preparing reports of finding according to the appropriate standards of content, clarity, grammar, and format.Ability to identify problems and recognize appropriate solutions as a result of the analysis of data.Ability to communicate effectively with employees, programs officials, job applicants and the public by relating the purpose of the contact and collecting all the necessary information required for the analysis.Ability to apply and adapt established procedures to the preparation and formulation of study findings.Ability to learn the basic principles and practices of public administration.Ability to read, write, and communicate orally in English.Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates in the performance of work.Physical Demands
