Chief Of Engineer
The Chief Of Engineer is responsible for leading engineering teams, managing projects, overseeing equipment and facility maintenance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and making strategic technical decisions to meet organizational goals. Key responsibilities include budgeting, staff training and supervision, system maintenance and upgrades, and collaborating with various departments and external stakeholders to maintain operational efficiency and safety.
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Overall responsibility for all maintenance functions for the entire facility including physical building structure, all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems and related equipment, projects, preventive maintenance programs.
- Lead, mentor, and train engineering staff.
- Delegate tasks, resolve conflicts, and foster a positive work environment.
- Conduct performance reviews and develop engineering teams.
- Develop annual routine preventive maintenance schedule for all equipment and facilities under the Director's purview. Develop FF&E budget and prioritize projects with input from the COO and VCA Engineering Committee.
- Monitor building systems for energy efficiency and cost savings.
- Continuously monitor and improve the maintenance processes, expenses, and results.
- Coordinate with other departments to maximize efficiency and service levels for clients and achieve the budgetary goals of VCA.
- Generate, analyze, interpret, and act upon department concerns to improve processes.
- Manage and respond to assigned work orders.
- Execute maintenance tasks across electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, and roofing trades to repair and maintain buildings and equipment.
- Conduct thorough inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify potential issues and ensure all systems are functioning properly.
- Perform routine checks and maintenance on equipment and building systems, such as changing filters, lubricating parts, and conducting inspections to prevent issues.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance dates, repair costs, and types of maintenance performed.
- Communicate existing and potential issues to the COO to ensure timely resolution.
- Proactively identify potential problems and ensure maintenance tasks are completed accurately.
- Manage engineering projects from planning to completion, ensuring adherence to time, budget, and quality objectives.
- Approve budgets and designs and conduct quality control checks.
- Assist in budget planning and forecasting for maintenance and capital projects.
- Manage inventory of maintenance materials and supplies.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and industry safety codes and regulations.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies for inspections and ensure OSHA compliance.
- Communicate complex technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate with management, other departments, and external contractors and vendors.
Qualifications
Skills / Abilities :
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Skills in planning, organizing, and executing projects within set constraints.Ability to apply basic mathematical skills.Must possess good verbal and written skills.Word and Excel proficient.Ability to manage a wide variety of activities at the same time.Meticulous approach to inspections and repairs to ensure thoroughness.Proficiency with hand and power tools, precision measuring devices, and specific trade skills (e.g., electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry).Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems with building systems and equipment.Ability to handle emergency situations effectively.Maintaining heating and plumbing systems for functionality.Effective written and verbal communication skills are necessary.Additional duties as assigned.Education / Experience :
High School or equivalent education.5 to 7 years' experience in a comparable position as a facilities department leader.Takes responsibility for a 24-hour operation.Highly skilled in all aspects of building maintenance (electrical, mechanical, HVAC to include refrigeration, building structure, and preventive maintenance).HVAC certification preferred.Ability to read technical manuals and drawings.Valid driver's license.Must be able to pass a background check.Physical Requirements :
