Job Summary :

The Automation Technician will be involved with the Automation Engineers assisting with fabrication, programming, installation, and maintenance of various levels of automation. The Automation Technician will also interact directly with the production department assisting in automation setups, training, and preventative maintenance.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities :

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair automated production equipment, including robotics, PLCs, sensors, and conveyors.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance and calibration of automation systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Assist in the installation, testing, and validation of new automation equipment and process improvements.
  • Work with engineers and quality teams to develop maintenance procedures.
  • Work closely with engineers and production teams to identify automation opportunities and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and system modifications in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Train production staff on proper use and maintenance of automated systems.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, including FDA, ISO 13485, and GMP regulations.
  • Support software updates, troubleshooting, and modifications for PLC and HMI systems.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities to minimize downtime and improve efficiency.
  • Stay up to date with emerging automation technologies and industry best practices.
  • Other duties, as requested, directed, and / or assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 2+ years of experience in an automation, maintenance, or manufacturing support role, preferably in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Understanding of PLC programming and relay ladder logic diagrams.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms).
  • Knowledge of industrial robotics, pneumatics, and electromechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with FDA and ISO 13485 regulatory requirements for medical device manufacturing is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of automated vision inspection systems (Cognex, Keyence, etc) a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
  • Fluent in English : able to read, write, and verbally communicate.
  • Physical Demands :

  • Standing, walking, bending, and sitting.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Light to moderate physical effort required.
  • Work Environment :

  • Professional offices.
  • Cleanroom or controlled manufacturing environment.
  • Willingness to work extended hours to complete automation projects, as required.
  • Travel to vendor sites will be required in the first year.
