Position Overview :
The Infection Preventionist conducts targeted infection surveillance activities, including investigations and responses to outbreaks among patients and / or personnel. They recommend and teach appropriate preventative measures to control infections, ensuring compliance with regulations and accreditation standards. This role has a focus on High Level Disinfection and involves, monitoring infection trends, educating staff, and collaborating with regulatory bodies to uphold organizational safety and compliance.
Key Responsibilities :
- Conduct targeted infection surveillance activities, including outbreak investigations and responses.
- Recommend and teach preventative measures to control infection spread.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and standards related to infection control.
- Collaborate with regulatory and accrediting agencies to maintain compliance.
- Monitor infection data and trends, analyzing performance to inform improvement strategies.
- Educate staff on infection prevention practices and organizational policies.
- Promote a culture of safety and continuous infection control improvement.
Qualifications & Requirements :
Education :Associates degree or higher in a healthcare-related field required.Knowledge of nursing and medical procedures; microbiology, infectious disease, epidemiology, asepsis, and immunology preferred.Experience :3-5 years of experience in healthcare or a related field is preferred.Prior experience in infection control preferred.Licensure & Certifications :Knowledge of local, state, and national infection control regulations and standards.National certification in infection control (e.g., CIC) preferred within 3 years from the date of hire.Why Join IU Health?
