Backed by experienced founders and investors, the company is vertically integrating manufacturing, photonics, and automation to create a platform capable of operating at unprecedented speeds and reliability. Were seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to design and launch our production infrastructure from the ground up. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives at the intersection of mechanical design, manufacturing systems, and automation. Youll own everything from line layout and tooling to equipment selection and throughput optimization.

We are designing both the technology and the production ecosystem to support scalable, reliable, and ultra-high-speed optical systems.
Job Duties
- Lead the end-to-end design and implementation of a precision manufacturing line for optical hardware, including takt-time modeling, ergonomic analysis, and facility-level 3D layout
- Define equipment needs across processes such as wafer bonding, flip-chip attach, die bonding, AOI, wire bonding, and thermal / environmental testing
- Manage vendor relationships for tooling procurement and commissioning
- Build digital models of production stations to evaluate throughput and failure modes
- Develop poka-yoke fixtures and automated test setups for final inspection, including bit error rate validation and firmware loading
- Create mechanical design rules that enable speed and repeatability in production
- Conduct root-cause analysis for downtime and lead corrective action implementation
- Oversee key metrics like first pass yield, OEE, and maintenance scheduling
- Interface with software, electrical, and process engineering teams to ensure line integration
Qualifications
BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field5+ years of experience owning mechanical design or production systems for high-volume electro-mechanical or optoelectronic productsStrong CAD background; able to independently release full mechanical design packages, including tolerancing and stack-up analysisFamiliar with PLC-controlled equipment, robotics, automation, and traceability in production environmentsWilling to work flexibly, including occasional extended hours to support build timelinesPreferred Experience
Hands-on ability to support rapid problem-solvingwhether that means machining a quick part, soldering, or writing a script for test automationFamiliarity with high-reliability production environments (e.g. defense, aerospace, photonics, or semiconductor)Security Clearance
