Authorization Coordinator

An medical office in the Fresno area is seeking a detail-oriented Authorization Coordinator to join their team. This role focuses on processing authorization requests, verifying eligibility, entering data, and communicating with provider offices and patients. If you enjoy a fast-paced environment, have solid customer service skills, and are knowledgeable about insurance processes, this could be a great fit.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Research and process patient authorization requests
  • Verify insurance eligibility and patient benefits
  • Enter demographic and authorization data into system
  • Prepare and manage medical review forms and logs
  • Answer incoming calls and provide high-quality customer service
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA standards
  • Assist with urgent "stat" requests as needed
  • Attend required department meetings and participate in team efforts
  • Support other team functions as assigned

Requirements :

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • At least 1 year of experience in a medical office or insurance setting
  • Strong data entry skills and computer proficiency
  • Familiarity with insurance types (HMO, PPO, EPO, workers' comp, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Comfortable working under tight deadlines in a high-volume environment
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive data tasks
  • Preferred :

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience with insurance billing and authorizations
  • Prior work in a managed care or utilization management department
