Job Summary

The Premium Auditor II, under limited supervision, is responsible for completing assigned premium audits adhering to company standards and industry regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Continuously exhibit and uphold Core Values of Integrity, Accountability, Communication and Teamwork, Innovation and Customer Service
  • Complete virtual and mail premium audits for assigned small to mid-size accounts of low to moderate complexity within established guidelines and best practices
  • Examine policyholders accounting and financial records to ensure accurate calculation of earned premium
  • Audit premium accounts in all industries for multiple lines, including various liabilities and commercial auto
  • Follow all industry, state, and company guidelines in the completion of audits
  • Notify internal (Underwriting, Actuarial, UW Services, Finance) teams of concerns with assigned accounts
  • Research, respond to and revise (when appropriate) disputed audits
  • Schedule and perform year end audits and cancellation audits on assigned accounts
  • Respond to underwriter and insured requests and questions regarding premium audits
  • Verify risk classification and class codes of policyholder operations
  • Prepare and deliver detailed reports of audit results
  • Interview external client contacts (i.e., accounting dept at insured; broker; CPA firm of insured; payroll / bookkeeping company of insured; etc.) for required audit documentation
  • Communicate audit results to internal and external client contacts
  • Research best practices and implement needed process changes
  • Perform other duties and assignments as directed by management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Intermediate knowledge of general business, insurance, and accounting principles
  • Intermediate knowledge of insurance premium audit operations
  • Knowledge of NCCI or other State Bureau premium audit rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of ISO General Liability rules, manuals, and industry practices
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement in making critical decisions
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proven ability to provide exceptional customer service
  • Ability to work successfully as an individual contributor and in a team environment
  • Ability to convey technical audit information in a clear and concise manner
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience and Education

    Premium Auditor

  • A ssociates degree or equivalent combination of training and experience preferred
  • Minimum of one year of premium audit experience preferred
  • Minimum of one year of work experience in customer service or office environment required
  • Certifications (APA, AINS) preferred
  • Premium Auditor II

  • A ssociate's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience preferred
  • Minimum of three years of premium audit experience required
  • Minimum of one year experience working with multi-state accounts preferred
  • Certifications (APA, AINS) preferred
  • Senior Premium Auditor

  • A ssociate's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience preferred
  • Minimum of five years of premium audit experience required
  • Minimum of three years experience working with multi-state accounts preferred
  • Certifications (APA, AINS) preferred
  • Assistant Manager, Premium Audit

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum five years of progressive experience in finance, audit or accounting roles within the insurance industry, financial services industry, and / or public accounting required
  • Minimum of one year experience managing professional or administrative staff preferred
  • Certifications or advanced professional credentials (APA, AINS, CPA, CIA) preferred
  • Manager, Premium Audit

  • A ssociate's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience preferred
  • Minimum seven years of premium audit, accounting / finance or a combination of the two required
  • Minimum of three years of experience managing professional or administrative staff required
  • Certifications or advanced professional credentials (APA, AINS, CPA, CIA) preferred
