Summary of Responsibilities
The Operations Manager is responsible for planning and direct line management of all Production and Finishing activities, ensuring that the company priorities regarding safety, adherence to operating procedures and policies, quality, innovation, fulfillment of customer commitments, and productivity are achieved consistently while controlling operating costs within budget. The Operations Manager manages and empowers Production and Finishing personnel as well as other key stakeholders through frequent engagement and interactions. In addition, this position develops and implements programs and systems to improve productivity with a primary focus on people skills and development, planning, and operational workflows (working closely with Quality Assurance, Production Control, and Procurement groups). The Operations Manager is expected to demonstrate a high-degree of initiative, self-motivation, and technical understanding of manufacturing processes.
Essential Functions
- Believes and demonstrates the “ Safety Always ” philosophy. Acts as a safety advocate, ensuring compliance with all safety procedures and programs.
- Maintains a proactive approach to delivery of all Safety issues. Sits as a member of the Safety Committee. Supports all incident review and corrective action processes to prevent similar incidents.
- Ensures quality production of the Company’s products and strives for zero-defect production by analyzing products and operations to identify quality problems.
- Champions the development and training of the team members to enable the delivery of Company goals and allow for the growth of team members.
- Maintains an operating team that is sensitive to and delivers the priorities of customer needs, especially in the area of product innovation.
- Frequently interacts with all manufacturing personnel and coaches the Supervisors to work in an empowering style.
- Maintains budget and documentation supporting abnormal balances.
- Monitors performance and implements improvements to deliver the productivity and budget requirements of the operation.
- Coordinates the daily execution of the forming plan and leads the production teams to meet all production KPI’s.
- Targets and maintains the highest possible inventory accuracy for products and materials in all responsible areas. Implements processes and systems to drive continual accuracy and efficiency.
- Ensures quality production of the company’s products and strives for product that meets or exceeds customer fitness for use requirements by monitoring products and operations to identify potential quality problems. Maintains a close working relationship with Quality Assurance and facilitates interactions to resolve production issues.
- Promotes positive team and inter-departmental interactions to support a unified approach to achieving company goals. This includes effectively communicating (oral and written), soliciting and using performance feedback and altering behaviors to improve performance (for self and direct reports), training, being trained, working to resolve employee relations issues, and supporting team and individual initiatives.
- Develop direct reports and mentor them to improve performance and prepare them for the next level.
- Responsible for ensuring that all direct reports are properly trained and fairly assessed, including training and assessment program development / implementation and training resource allocation.
- Works closely with the planning department to effectively meet all customer demands.
- Fundamental in the safe and successful execution of all product changes and planned maintenance availabilities.
- Fully understands and supports the technical requirements and developments of the processes and products.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Demonstrates a high degree of self-motivation, professionalism and integrity.Works well within a self-directed team environment with minimal supervision; ability to manage team efforts to meet safety, quality, production, and good housekeeping goals.Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with teams across the organization.Strong understanding of Root Cause Analysis and different methods such as 5WHY.Strong leadership and coaching skills.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skillsManagement experience within a manufacturing environment (Paper Industry a plus).Proficient in all MS Office systems; strong computer literacy and MS Excel abilities.Effective organization and time management skills.Able to work cross-functionally and collaboratively with various stakeholders.Excellent verbal and written communication skills
