LightFeather is seeking a System Administrator to support a federal client in managing secure, high-performance IT infrastructure. The System Administrator will be responsible for server and network administration, database maintenance, system security, and operational continuity. This role requires hands-on technical expertise, proactive problem-solving, and strong collaboration skills to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient systems that meet mission needs.
Location : Remote with preference for Silver Spring, MD area candidates

Key Responsibilities :
Server & Network Administration
- Install, configure, and maintain Windows Server environments, including applying updates, patches, and security configurations.
- Manage Active Directory accounts, permissions, and group policies.
- Monitor network components, servers, and storage systems to ensure optimal performance and availability.
- Coordinate with vendors and third-party service providers for hardware and network support.
Database & Application Support
Support SQL Server database operations, including backups, restores, and performance optimization.Configure and maintain Microsoft IIS for application hosting and secure web service operations.Manage SMTP services for application email delivery.Support integration and secure authentication for web-based and internal applications.Security & Compliance
Implement and maintain encryption across databases and systems.Monitor systems for security vulnerabilities and apply remediation measures.Ensure all systems adhere to federal security standards and best practices.Support security assessments, compliance evaluations, and documentation updates.Backup & Recovery
Manage backup operations using NAS and AWS GovCloud environments.Test and verify backup integrity and recovery capabilities.Support disaster recovery efforts to restore services within required timeframes.Technical Support & Collaboration
Provide Tier II / III support for escalated technical issues.Assist in the deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting of hardware, software, and network resources.Maintain accurate technical documentation, including system configurations, procedures, and change logs.Required Qualifications
U.S. Citizenship required.Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.5+ years of experience in system administration for Windows Server environments.Strong knowledge of Active Directory, IIS, and SQL Server.Experience in network monitoring, backup / recovery processes, and encryption technologies.Proficiency in troubleshooting complex technical issues in production environments.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Preferred Skills
Familiarity with federal IT compliance standards and frameworks.Experience with AWS GovCloud and virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.Knowledge of network and security monitoring tools.Relevant industry certifications (e.g., MCSA, MCSE, CompTIA Server+, Security+).Why Join LightFeather?
