Outside Sales Associate

Zarsky Lumber Company is looking for an Outside Sales Associate who reports to the Store Manager. This position is exempt with uncapped commission.

Position Summary :

An Outside Sales Associate is responsible for finding sales opportunities and completing sales primarily with builders, developers, and contractors. This position requires the ability to establish and maintain relationships with a customer base of 15 30 customers on an ongoing basis. This is accomplished by identifying target customers, making calls, visiting job sites, and assisting customers in a timely and efficient manner with their projects and related product knowledge. Strong sales techniques, following through with commitment, and excellent communication skills are all components of this position.

General :

Seeking a qualified individual to manage and grow account base by selling a full line of building materials and services. The ideal candidate will have 5 years of previous selling experience with a focus on building materials or similar to custom and commercial builders. Extensive product knowledge is a plus. Candidate must possess good oral and written communication skills and be able to present and negotiate large deals in a group setting.

Compensation :

The compensation structure during the transitional period is as follows : For the first 6 months, it will be based on a semi-monthly salary rate. After this period, the compensation will transition to being 100% commission-based, calculated using gross profit dollars from assigned accounts. Additionally, there will be a monthly car allowance provided, along with reimbursement for limited cell phone and business expenses.

Role & Duties :

Meet and exceed annual sales goals. Prospect for new business within the company's trade area to ensure market share growth year over year. Manage existing accounts, as assigned, to ensure ongoing business activity. Also, see that customer service levels meet and exceed customer and company expectations.

Major Responsibilities :

  • Identify target customers
  • Build and maintain new customers and vendor relationships
  • Provide and maintain service to current customers
  • Industry contacts are preferred
  • Read blueprints
  • Collect and keep up-to-date information on customers' product use and trends
  • Sell lumber and building material
  • Meet and / or exceed sales and profit goals by following up on sales leads, monitoring market trends, and growing the positive reputation of the company
  • Create estimates, special orders, and invoices
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by assisting with take-offs and communicating scheduling and delivery commitments
  • Travel to local job sites

Communication :

  • Keep lines of communication open between the internal customer (departments and work groups) and the external customer to ensure that service is accurate and timely
  • Keep the store manager informed of new business opportunities, concerns, issues, etc.

  • Identify personal growth needs and learning opportunities
  • Commit to continued learning on products and procedures
  • Aggressively learn the Point of Sales system (BisTrack)
  • Adhere to all Company policies and procedures
  • Qualification Guide :

    Education : High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Associate degree in construction, design, or related fields (preferred).

    Experience : Minimum 2 to 3 years of sales experience in lumber material. Demonstrated ability to increase sales and improve profitability. Ability to read blueprints and compile a material take-off. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public. Ability to understand construction practices. Ability to understand instructions in written, oral, or diagram form to complete the task. Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Knowledgeable of industry forecasting and account management. Ability to participate effectively as a team member. Ability to work a flexible schedule.

    Knowledge, skills, and abilities :

  • BisTrack System a plus
  • Basic computer skills including; Microsoft Office, Outlook email, and QuickBook (will train)
