Firefighter
You will establish on-scene control procedures (e.g., zone control, decontamination) in a hazardous material incident.
You will drive a firefighting vehicle (e.g., pumper, aerial ladder truck, rescue truck, brush truck, quick-attack vehicle, airport rescue firefighting vehicle) to the scene of a fire.
You will comply with health and safety rules and procedures while treating victims.
You will perform structural firefighting duties for facilities to minimize fire damage.
You will maneuver equipment (e.g., pumps, foam generators, boom and ground sweep nozzles) when combating fires.
Must be a US Citizen.
Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level.
Applicants must meet the Department of Defense (DoD) certification requirements.
Candidates for firefighter positions must not have reached their 37th birthday by date of appointment.
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
This is a bargaining unit position.
You will be required to have and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and / or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
This is a Mission Essential position.
The employee is required to report for duty during natural disasters and other emergency situations as directed by the Fire Chief.
For the GS-06 : Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR GS-06 GRADE LEVEL : This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for the GS-05.
For the GS-05 : Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR GS-05 GRADE LEVEL : Employee is required to have DoD Firefighter Certification System for Firefighter I and II, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations, and Basic Life Support Provider.
