Job Title : Chapter Proposal Writer / Editor

Department : Advancement, Grants Team

Scope : The Chapter Proposal Writer / Editor plays a key role in donor communications, primarily fundraising from foundations for chapter and group projects. The role involves collaborating with chapter staff, volunteers, and other teams to write, edit, and approve proposals and reports, supporting Sierra Club’s fundraising goals. The position manages proposal development, submission, and administration, including grant reports and related grant management tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing grant proposals : Collaborate with staff and foundation partners to craft compelling, accurate, and aligned proposals for foundation, corporate, and major donor funding.
  • Preparing grant reports : Develop reports on funded activities, working with relevant staff and foundations.
  • Advising Chapter staff : Provide guidance on content development for projects and reports, and advise on fundraising strategies and compliance issues.
  • Staying informed : Keep up-to-date with foundation and donor priorities and tailor proposals accordingly.
  • Coordinating submissions : Manage proposal and report submissions in coordination with regional gift officers.
  • Supporting training : Assist in developing and delivering training materials on proposal writing for staff and volunteers.
  • Grant administration : Maintain grant records, schedules, and files using Salesforce and Google Drive, and track grant awards and deadlines.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong writing and editing skills, ability to work under tight deadlines, and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management, and ability to prioritize and work independently.
  • Commitment to understanding and addressing systems of oppression, with humility and openness.
  • Positive, constructive attitude, with humor and kindness.
  • Preferred : Experience with grant proposal writing, knowledge of conservation issues.
  • Compensation & Benefits

    The salary is $62,000 annually. The role may require occasional overtime, generally predictable and limited. It is represented by a union, with benefits including health coverage and a 401(k).
