Statement of Duties
Position is responsible for collecting n,.oney from parking meters; installing, maintaining, and repairing parking meters; removing and displacing parking meters; and ensuring for cleanliness and proper working condition of the City's parking meters.
Supervision
Employee works under the general supervision of the Traffic Engineer and / or designee, where clear, detailed, and specific instructions govern the work, or are explained with each assignment. Employee works as instructed and consults with the supervisor as needed on all matters not specifically covered in the guidelines or instructions. The supervisor reviews the work in progress or upon completion.
Employee does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
Employee does not have access to any confidential information.
Job Environment
The work consists of routine or repetitive tasks and / or operations with few variations in established procedures. Well-defined or detailed rules, instructions, and procedures cover all aspects of work. Employee uses judgment to choose the appropriate practices, procedures, regulations, or guidelines to apply in each case.
Errors may result in damage to equipment, monetary loss, a delay or loss of service.
The employee has frequent contact with the public while collecting money from meters on public streets. Other contacts are with other City departments to give or receive information and assistance.
Position Functions
- Installs, maintains, and repairs parking meters, and ensures for their proper working condition.
- Removes and disposes of unusable parking meters.
- Disassembles, cleans, adjusts, and repairs parking meter heads.
- Replaces worn or broken parts.
- Assists in the collection and counting of money from traffic meters located on public streets throughout the City.
- Performs regular maintenance on all meters, replaces batteries, lubricates locks, and cleans meters.
- Attends training and workshops, as needed, to remain abreast of meter repair techniques.
- Participates in snow and ice removal operations and other emergencies as declared by the City.
- Performs similar or related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Physical and Mental Requirements
Work is performed primarily outdoors on city streets. Employee is exposed to outdoor weather conditions, and fumes or airborne particles more than 2 / 3rd of the time; and moving mechanical parts up to 2 / 3rd of the time. Employee is required to
stand, walk, and use hands more than 2 / 3rd of the time; talk or listen up to 2 / 3rd of the time; and sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and reach with hands and arms up to 1 / 3rd of the time. Employee duties involve close hand and eye coordination and physical dexterity. Employee frequently lifts up to 60 lbs. Equipment operated includes heavy trucks, light trucks, power tools, hand tools, and meters. Normal vision is required for the position.Education and Experience
A candidate for this position should have a High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one (1) year prior work experience. Employee is required to possess a valid Massachusetts Drivers License. A candidate for this position is required to have a Class B Commercial Drivers License. Class A preferred.
